Ready 2 Read!

Ready 2 Read El Dorado KS is a free summer reading program for children sponsored by KN2E during July 2021.

Our air conditioned GLOW Bus will park at various reading sites in El Dorado – to be used as a reading room. Other reading sites will be indoors.

Children ages 4 – 9 are invited to participate – to help them strengthen and maintain their reading skills, in order to return to school better ready to learn.

  • Kids ages 6 – 9 attend two sessions a week – Mondays & Wednesdays, or Tuesdays & Thursdays. During each reading session, each child and their Reading Buddy read a book together, and engage in activities to strengthen reading skills.
  • Kids ages 4 – 5 attend story time groups on Fridays to build reading readiness skills. Parents are welcome to participate.

Children who participate in Ready 2 Read will receive a snack to eat before their reading session, and also fresh fruit and/or veggies to take home afterwards.

Households of children who attend R2R are invited to participate in weekly drawings of gift cards to buy gas for their vehicle and/or bags of groceries to make a family dinner at home.

The deadline to register a child is May 31, 2021.

Sessions will be offered at various locations in El Dorado, KS. The locations being considered are listed in the Registration Form.

Reading sessions are in the afternoon. The choices are:

  • 1:00 – 1:45 pm    
  • 2:00 — 2:45 pm
  • 3:00 – 3:45 pm

If you register a child, you will be contacted by June 15 with details about the times and location of your child’s reading sessions.
